Food tech: avoiding a precedent that would open the door to abuse

6 months · Japan · Representation contract

• The situation: The authorities wanted to ban, a world first, a product recognised as “generally safe” by the WHO.
What we did: Deployed scientific evidence-based counter-arguments, engaging with authorities, diplomats and media.
Why it mattered: The precedent would have drawn a target on our client for governments prone to find simple solutions to complicated issues.
The result: The promised ban was never enforced.

Our background

More than 20 years developing lobbying and communication strategies for international groups, trade associations, and national bodies across EMEA and the EU. Issues handled include GMO/GMM, food enzymes, processing aids, sweeteners, food additives, REACH, CSR, and sustainability — arenas where science, regulation, and public opinion collide. A second career in video game journalism for some of Europe’s most demanding outlets gives us a rare command of an industry now facing its own wave of regulation and scrutiny.
